WHAT IS HALLOWEEN?

Happy Halloween

Halloween is one of the most exciting times of the year for both kids and adults. It was a celebration of the Celtic new year which falls on November 1 of the Gregorian calendar. The festival would begin the night before on what is now October 31. We can trace the history of Halloween to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain over 2000 years ago

Over the centuries, from an ancient Celtic day, Halloween has evolved into a day of pomp, parties, and shows. Equally enjoyed by kids and adults, modern-day Halloweens are all about trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, family gatherings, costumes, and treats.

WHY DO WE CARVE PUMPKINS AT HALLOWEEN?

Make your own creative carved pumpkin

Halloween history made its grand turn towards its current form when Americans embraced carved pumpkins by the 1920s, the Celts carved faces on large turnips and then hollowed out the inside of the vegetable so a candle could sit within it. The light shining out through the carved faces was designed to scare away evil spirits, ready to see in a New Year in the Celtic calendar.
