VARALAKSHMI VRATAM SPECIAL PARUPPU SADAM RECIPE
Paruppu Sadam is a basic, go-to everyday meal, popular in South Indian cuisine. This one pot meal is made with Ponni parboiled rice, toor dal, onion, garlic and tomato as main ingredients.
PARUPPU SADAM RECIPE
This recipe is highly aromatic and quick to make.

REQUIRED INGREDIENTS
2tbsp Oil (Gingelly Oil)
1tbsp Ghee
¼ tsp Mustard Seeds
½ tsp Urad Dal
1tsp Cumin Seeds
1spring Curry Leaves
5 – 6 Garlic Cloves
10 Shallots
½ tsp Turmeric Powder
¼ tsp Asafetida
1 Tomato
1cup Rice
1/3 cup Toor Dal / Thuvaram Paruppu
2cup Water
Salt to taste
(1tbsp Ghee + Few Curry Leaves for garnishing)
METHOD
- Wash and soak thoor dal in water for 15 minutes, then add rice to it and rinse well. Keep it aside.
- Heat oil and ghee in a cooker and temper with mustard seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds, green chilies, red chilies, garlic, shallots and cook for a minute.
- Then add tomato and cook for few more minutes. Now to this add asafetida and turmeric powder, mix well.
- Now add in the rice + dhal, water and required salt. Cook for 1 whistle on medium heat.
- Melt ghee in a pan and then add some curry leaves and add it to the cooked dal and rice, mix well and is ready to be served.
- Delicious paruppu sadam is ready to be served.
