WORLD SAMOSA DAY
World Samosa Day is celebrated on September 5. Samosas are a popular snack in the local cuisines of South Asia, Western Asia, Southeast Asia and Africa.
Here’s a delicious crunchy samosa recipe to enjoy with the whole family & friends.
SAMOSA RECIPE
Prep Time: 30 mins
Cook Time: 15 mins
Serves: 6-8
REQUIRED INGREDIENTS
For Dough
1 cup plain flour/ Maida
2 teaspoons oil
salt to taste
water as needed
For Filling
Oil for deep fry
1 small onion finely chopped
2 garlic finely chopped
ginger finely chopped
¼ tsp ground cumin
1 tsp garam masala
½ tsp chilli powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
3 Large Boiled Potatoes - peeled
2 tbsp water
½ cup green peas
Salt and pepper to taste optional
METHOD
In a large bowl, add boiled potatoes.
Mash them all and added green peas.
Add all the spices and mix well to combine potatoes with spices.
Keep the filling aside.
Heat 2 tsp oil in the pan over medium flame.
Add onion, garlic, ginger, chilli powder, garam masala, turmeric powder and cumin stir for a minute and then add the potato, green peas, coriander and green chilli mix them properly and cook for a minute.
Turn off the flame. And keep them aside.
Mix the flour with salt. Add in the oil and knead. Add water little by little till the dough comes out well
Let the dough rest for 2 hours.
After two hours, knead the dough slowly and divide into 8 - 10 small balls.
Roll each ball into a very thin round
Heat iron tava over medium heat.
Place each sheet and cook for 20 seconds from one side alone.
Let them cool thoroughly.
Cut into two semi circles.
Take one semi-circle and Apply water to the cut edges and form a triangle.
Lift the triangle in your palm to form a cone shape.
Take 1 tbsp potato filling and add inside the cone.
Seal and crimp the edges to make sure it's air-tight and doesn't burst while cooking.
Heat oil in a pan.
Add 3-4 raw samosa in the pan and fry on a low-medium flame.
Fry till golden brown on both sides.
Serve with green chutney and tomato chutney.
GREEN CHUTNEY RECIPE FOR SAMOSA
Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 05 mins
Serves: 6
REQUIRED INGREDIENTS
1 cup Coriander leaves
½ cup Mint
1 tabs Lemon juice
¼ tsp Roasted Cumin powder
½ tsp Salt to taste
METHOD
Wash the coriander leaves and mint leaves.
Transfer the leaves into the jar of a blender.
Add all the other ingredients into the blender.
run it for 1-2 minutes to a smooth paste. Add water if required.
Serve with hot samosa.
