FROM FIELD TO FORK – WORLD FOOD DAY WITH WHOLSOME MEALS!
CELEBRATING WORLD FOOD DAY WITH HEALTHY MEALS
World Food Day is a special day when people all around the world come together to think about the food we eat and how it gets to our tables. It's important to remember that the food we enjoy starts from farms and goes through many steps before we can eat it. In this blog post, we'll talk about World Food Day and how we can appreciate our meals from the very beginning, when they are grown on farms.
Farms Grow Our Food
Farms are like big gardens where farmers work hard to grow all the fruits, vegetables, and grains that make up our meals. They take care of plants and animals to make sure they grow strong and healthy.
Harvesting Time
When the fruits, vegetables, and grains are ready, it's time to pick them! This is called harvesting. Farmers and their helpers gather the food and get it ready to be sent to stores.
Food Travels to Stores
After the food is harvested, it travels to grocery stores. Big trucks help take the food from the farms to the places where we can buy it.
Choosing Our Food
When we go to the store, we get to pick what we want to eat. We can choose from different kinds of fruits, vegetables, grains, and more. It's like a big buffet of delicious options!
Cooking Time
Once we have our food at home, it's time to cook! We can use recipes to make yummy dishes. This is where our meals really start to come together.
Enjoying Our Meals
Finally, it's time to sit down and enjoy the food we've prepared. It's a special moment when we can be thankful for all the hard work that went into getting the food to our plates.
TOMATO BASIL PASTA RECIPE
Ingredients
200g Pasta (spaghetti, penne, or your preference)
4 ripe Tomatoes, diced
2 cloves Garlic, minced
1/4 cup Fresh basil leaves, chopped
3 tabs Olive oil
Salt and black pepper, to taste
Grated Parmesan cheese, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- While the pasta is cooking, dice the tomatoes and set them aside.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant.
- Add the diced tomatoes to the skillet. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the tomatoes soften and release their juices.
- Add the cooked pasta to the skillet with the tomato mixture. Toss gently to combine, ensuring the pasta is well coated with the tomato sauce.
- Stir in the chopped basil leaves. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Plate the pasta and tomatoes. If desired, garnish with grated Parmesan cheese.
- Serve hot and savour the simple, fresh flavours of this dish.
On World Food Day, we remember how important farms and farmers are in providing us with the delicious meals we enjoy. From the farm to our plate, there are many steps that make it all possible. Let's celebrate this special day by appreciating every part of the journey that brings food to our tables. Happy World Food Day!
