DRIED FRUITS AT HOME USING AN OVEN
Hello Summer! The fruits, bushes and berry plants are ready to explode with ample harvest.
When it comes to fruits there are three things we can do with our harvests: Can, Freeze and Dry.
Let’s learn how to turn summer-fresh fruit into a quick and easy snack. All you need is an oven, parchment paper and a baking pan. Also don’t forget, you can get all your dried fruits and nuts from Kugans Online Supermarket as well. Ready? Let’s dive right into it!
The Method is Simple!
Prepare your fruits.
- Choose ripe fruits and berries.
- Wash them in cold water.
- Remove the blemishes, any pits or stones and stems.
- Cut the fruits evenly to let them dry on the same day.
To keep the fruits looking appetizing and minimizing discolouration, what you need to do is soak them in lemon juice and water for roughly 10 minutes, then drain and blot-dry them with a fuzz-free towel.
- Preheat the oven to 130-160 degrees F
(Note: Use lower temperature for thinly sliced fruits such as apples or peaches. Higher temperature for fruits such as strawberries and other whole berries.)
- Place the parchment paper onto the baking pan.
- Arrange the fruits in a single layer (The fruits should not be touching).
- Top the fruit with a silicone pan liner to keep them curling up as they dry.
- Place the fruit into the oven and rotate the pan every 02 hours.
How do you know it’s ready?
Dried fruits should feel like leather but still be flexible. Time to store the dried fruits!
When the fruit is ready:
- Remove it from the oven
- Place the fruits in a glass or plastic containers to cure it
- Now leave the container open for 4-5 days so the moisture left from the drying process can fully evaporate.
- Shake the container every day.
- Seal the container after 5 days
And that’s it! Enjoy your D.I.Y Homemade Dried Fruits!
